Week Eight :: August 19–August 23

Picasso__ViolinCubism :: Pablo Picasso and George Braque
This course will serve as an introduction to the artist movement of Cubism. The course will discuss Cubist artists such as Pablo Picasso and George Braque, and then create works inspired by them. Students will primarily work in charcoal and paint, as did the Cubists to help convey the artists experience. Collage and cardboard sculpture will also be created. The course will cover much of the Pablo Picasso’s life and his development of the Cubist movement. It will compare and constrast famous works to their own unique works.

Course Objectives :: students will
• Recognize the Cubist movement and specific artists within the movement
• Comprehend the intent of Cubism by discussing style and themes used
Apply the principles of Cubism within their unique works inspired by the artists
• Create unique Cubist works in traditional medium such as charcoal and paint
• Analyze parts of works crated by aritsts and their own unique works, in critiques to discuss intent and themes
• Criticize their unique Cubist works with their peers and the artists to see if the principles of Cubism were applied
